Large Format and Thin Tile Installation

Course Description:

The use of large format tile (LFT) meets the objectives and vision of architects, designers and building owners: A clean, modern look. Ease of maintenance. Durability. Safety. Accessibility. It is critical to know and understand the LFT installation process before design begins. This presentation addresses design, function, materials and methods to help achieve those goals and avoid costly mistakes.

Learning Objectives:

  • Locate current related standards and recommendations from ANSI and the Tile Council of North America (TCNA) Handbook and how and where to apply them
  • Use applicable ANSI standards to specify large format tile and assess how those standards directly relate to the safe, successful performance of a tile installation
  • Assess and evaluate different substrates for suitability, soundness and necessary preparation before writing a tile specification in order to avoid incompatible applications and costly changes
  • Learn how to specify tile installations to avoid potential failures and dangerous conditions, and to facilitate accessibilitywhile enhancing the beauty of the design project
